Brittney Dzialo and her friend Hannah were travelling through Europe when they reached Rome airport. Their plan was simple enough: hop on a short flight to the French Riviera and enjoy a few days of sun in Nice.
But when they asked for tickets “to Nice,” the agent heard something very different: Tunis.
And so, without realising it, the pair boarded the wrong flight, buckled in, and took off—not towards lavender fields and the Mediterranean coast of France, but straight across the sea to North Africa.
Realisation at 30,000 Feet
It wasn’t until they were mid-flight, chatting with other passengers, that the penny dropped. “Wait… we’re not going to Nice?” By then, their bags were checked, their seats were filled, and there was no turning back.
Landing in Tunis, they faced a whole new challenge: trying to explain the situation to airport staff, with language barriers making everything that bit more complicated. What was supposed to be a two-hour hop had turned into a mini international saga.
