Earlier, I published an article on the top 20 Irish baby names(Irish boy names and Irish girl names), and while this is very useful to get a quick idea, I find the best way to find names is just to go through a giant list of baby names! So, I put together one of the biggest Irish baby names for you to browse until you find the perfect one. There are, in total, 300 Irish baby names, made of a mixture of 150 for boys and 150 for girls. There are many popular Irish names, but I tried to add as many unique Irish baby names as possible.

And yes, before you ask, I have included the meanings and how to pronounce the Irish baby names. The list is a mixture of traditional Irish baby names and modern Irish baby names.

I know from trying to find my baby name that it is no easy task. And while some people manage to settle on a name very quickly, others take a lot longer. But I’ve found that looking at a LOT of Irish baby names at least help you narrow down it to a smaller selection. And, of course, if you know the sex of your baby before it is born, that also helps.

Many of these baby names have Celtic origins and have appeared throughout Irish history. I have also included the pronunciation of these Irish baby names. Being an Irish person, I still struggle with pronouncing these names, so don’t worry if you do as well.

But first, why pick an Irish baby name over another baby name?

Irish baby in a field, helps you pick from the list of Irish baby names

Looking for the perfect Irish baby name? Got you covered!

While I am sure many of you reading this will have some Irish heritage, there are also a few other reasons to pick a beautiful Irish baby name.

Here are ten reasons to pick an Irish baby name:

  1. Heritage and Ancestry: To honour their Irish roots and cultural heritage.
  2. Cultural Appreciation: To celebrate and embrace Irish culture, Gaelic traditions, and history.
  3. Unique and Meaningful: For the name’s beauty, uniqueness, and meaningful significance.
  4. Sound and Pronunciation: Irish names often sound melodic and memorable.
  5. Religious or Spiritual Significance: When words hold religious or spiritual importance, especially in Irish mythology.
  6. Literary or Historical References: To pay homage to famous figures or literary characters.
  7. Modern Appeal: Because some traditional Irish names align with current naming trends.
  8. Family Tradition: To continue a naming tradition passed down through generations.
  9. Globalization and Multiculturalism: As a reflection of global diversity and cultural interconnectedness.
  10. Personal Connection: When parents have a personal affinity or emotional attachment to a specific Irish name.

I told you it was a big list of Irish baby names, didn’t I? I hope that you manage to find a few gems. I did double-check it for duplicates, but if you see any, please let me know. Many names that were once considered old Irish are making a come, such as ‘Theresa’. You will also see a lot of these names being anglicized. For example, Finn is the Anglicized version of Fionn; the name means “fair” or “white.”. What I like about Irish names is they are just such unique baby names. This often proves why these Irish baby names are so popular! So whether you are having an Irish girl or an Irish boy, I hope this list has helped you find your Irish baby name!

If it has, please comment below and let me know! Also, be sure to subscribe to my weekly dose of Irish. And if you are visiting Ireland soon, be sure to check out all you need to know here.
